TIND End Table

A Small, Eco-Friendly Table with a Strong Visual Presence

The TIND End Table, designed by Nils Finne, is a unique and visually striking piece of furniture that seamlessly integrates the table surface and leg structure. The table's design inspiration came from the challenge of creating a table where the legs and top are inseparable. The bamboo legs pass through the perforated steel top, creating a pattern that is visually captivating.

The TIND End Table stands out with its eco-friendly materials and strong aesthetic appeal. The recycled steel top is waterjet-cut with an intricate pattern, resulting in vivid light and shadow patterns. The fourteen bamboo legs are shaped by the perforated pattern in the steel top and pass through it before being cut flush. When viewed from above, the carbonized bamboo creates a captivating pattern that contrasts beautifully with the perforated steel.

Bamboo, a rapidly renewable raw material, adds to the table's eco-friendly credentials. Unlike wood, bamboo is a rapidly-growing grass, making it a sustainable choice for furniture design.

The realization of the TIND End Table involves waterjet-cutting the steel top using direct drive digital files. The intricate pattern in the steel top determines the shape of each bamboo leg. The table's dimensions are 17" high with a 15"x15" overall size. The materials used include recycled steel for the top and carbonized bamboo for the legs.

Functionally, the TIND End Table is user-friendly and enhances any space it occupies. The contrast of texture and color between the steel and bamboo creates a strong aesthetic and emotional statement. Each material is enhanced by this juxtaposition, resulting in a visually stunning piece of furniture.

The design and fabrication of the TIND End Table took a total of four months, with two months dedicated to design and two months for fabrication. The project was based in Seattle, Washington, USA.

The TIND End Table is a result of extensive research and creative problem-solving. The goal was to create a table that seamlessly integrates the top and leg structure, which was achieved through the complex pattern in the perforated steel top. The structural connection between the steel top and bamboo legs posed the most significant challenge during the design process.

The TIND End Table, with its unique design and eco-friendly materials, has been recognized with the Silver A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2014. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill. The TIND End Table exemplifies excellence and evokes positive emotions, amazement, and wonder.
